Decorate a kitchen breakfast nook

Wondering how to create a cozy breakfast nook in your kitchen? It's not as hard as you think to design a welcoming space to savor your morning coffee and toast! By dedicating a little corner of your kitchen and bringing in a few key decor elements, you can create a cozy nook that's sure to be the perfect morning retreat. Here's what you'll need:

1. A Breakfast Bar. A versatile furniture piece (like the one pictured above) has a flip-up leaf for breakfast bar seating, but folds down to function as an island. (It's also a great place to store your coffeemaker, favorite mug, and morning granola.)

2. A Comfortable Stool. Buy a bar stool or counter stool with a plush, padded seat and good back support. Deciding which type of stool to buy will depend on the height of your breakfast bar - counter stools have a 24-26" seat height (perfect for a 28-30" high table), while a bar stool seat is right around 30" high (suited for a 40-43" high table).

3. Overhead Lighting. Create a calm morning mood with a gorgeous chandelier, classic pendant light, or simple celiing fixture - whatever suits your taste. (For added ambiance, install a dimmer switch!) In the scenario above, we've chosen a ceiling fan with a light kit, since it's perfect for stirring up a cool breeze on hot summer mornings.

4. Artwork and Decor. Personalize your breakfast nook with a few of your favorite things - whether it's a favorite art piece (how cute are those coffee-themed works above?), antique dishware, or a rad retro toaster, these little details will put the finishing touches on your nook and really make it yours.
